I want to be this kind of a person…
Friday, July 31st, 2009By James E. Miller:
I believe in people who care.
Even more, I believe in what these generous people offer others. They bring caregiving down to its essentials:
I believe the work they do is both deceptively simple and unusually difficult. For the task is to offer those who so need it something irreplaceable: Their own humanness.
They bestow a priceless gift: themselves, and the best of themselves.
They approach the other holding out what they have to offer: their sensitivity, their belief, and their dedication.
They bring into the open what they choose not to hide: their woundedness, their honesty, their compassion.
What these empathetic people do requires real courage, for they do not know how they will be received, or if they will be understood.
What they give requires great perseverance, for healing is a time-consuming process, and staying with others in their pain is an energy-draining experience.
But if these souls did not perform their roles in the way they do, then in a very real sense the Word would not be made flesh. The Love would not be made visible. The Hope would not be made genuine.
Yet because such committed caregivers are among us, we know the world is not just a better place but ours is a better time and we are a better people.
We know that, because those who truly care show us, day after day after day.

These two girls are twins. They are absolutely beautiful and were such a joy to photograph.

This picture of Will and his mom breaks my heart. To me, the image represents how we feel about our beautiful children. Each year, I am more aware of the depth of sorrow a parent feels when their child is hurt. This was just a moment today, when Will’s mom was warming him up and getting ready to pick him up because his shoot was finished.

Lexi and her brother were hilarious. She looks up to him so much. Everything we asked Lexi to do, her response was, “I want my brother to do it, too.” So, he did. From my observation, there is something extra special…a closeness…between siblings when one has an illness like cancer. It seems, all too early, that these kids understand that each moment of life is precious. They understand that the most important time in NOW because you don’t know what will happen tomorrow.
Doesn’t Justin make you want to join the Mickey Mouse Club? He is so cute.

Cody is amazing. He came to the shoot ready to be our model.
I realize that I took quite a few sihouettes today…but I think that they show the strength of each of these children.
